I’ve been working from home since a long time.By this point, I feel pretty qualified to give some advice on how NOT to lose your mind when you work from home. Working remotely certainly requires a unique skillset and stronger work ethic than what most are used to.
But, I think remote work ,works best when you make your work desk/place/environment more interesting and fill it with positive vibes.
So, first things first …
Get Ready Like You’re Going Into an Office.
The thing that’s helped me stay productive the most is getting ready like I’m going into an office. For me, that means actually getting out of my night dress and putting on some nice-ish clothes. No way am I going to wear a button up shirts and khakis, but anything other than athleisure. I put on makeup, do my hair because You never know when a video call, or networking opportunity might pop up, and I want to be ready.
Shift to a more open space.
Sure, you can work from your bed, but having a physical space, away from mundane domestic disturbances makes a huge difference in productivity. I have also found comfort in my tiny little balcony and slowly have converted it into a little comfy ,relaxed and a cozy workspace . Just a
nice rug on the floor surrounded with my potted plants and with a sip of coffee . I let my creative juices flow here while enjoying the rattling sound of rains .
P.S. Its okay if you don’t have a balcony , you can always shift to a place near the window or in your backyard , wherever you find peace.
Especially, during this monsoon season where everything is more greener and fresher and their is a breeze of cool wind all around. Try shifting your work space to a more peaceful environment were you have abundant natural light. You can do once in a while, whenever you don’t have any conference calls to attend but still need to get that work done.Highlight this time as your 'Self Zoned out' time or blackout times where no one is available for discussion or support. It's important to be proactive in this rather be caught doing something else or being away from when someone is trying to reach you urgently. credibility is a big part of the acceptance of work from home.
Finally,Deliver.
Don't be tardy with that. Effort metrics don't matter in a work from home situation. It is the timely output that matters.
I hope those tips helped! Let me know in the comments if you also work from home and have tried any of these tips or have other suggestions. And if you want to join me on the rest of my residency journey this year, follow me on my other socials mentioned above!
Be your own boss :P
